Instagram image sizes, explained
Instagram supports three feed post shapes — square (1080×1080), the taller portrait format (1080×1350, generally recommended since it takes up more space in the feed), and landscape (1080×566). Stories and Reel covers use a full-screen vertical 1080×1920 frame, and the profile picture is a small 320×320 circle — keep the subject centered since the edges get cropped into a circle.
Pick a format above, drag your photo to reposition it, and download at the exact size — entirely in your browser, nothing ever uploaded.
Tips for each format
- For portrait posts, keep the main subject in the upper two-thirds — the bottom gets covered by the caption preview on some devices.
- Story and Reel covers are viewed full-screen on a phone, so avoid placing important detail right at the very top or bottom edge.
- Profile pictures display as a circle everywhere — center the subject and leave margin around it.
